Brick pavers and hardscape.
Paver Patios
A patio is the piece of the yard that gets used every week. It should sit flat, shed water away from the house, and hold its line at the edges where the grass meets it.
Where the water goes
This is the first question, before pattern or color. A patio that drains back toward the slab causes problems you will notice long before you notice the paver. We set the fall away from the structure and work with what the yard already does.
What is under it
Excavation to stable ground, a compacted aggregate base, a bedding layer, then the paver. The base is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether the patio is still flat in a few years.
Pattern and edge
Running bond, herringbone, and basketweave all behave differently under foot traffic and read differently at the size of your yard. Edge restraint goes in on every open side, because an unrestrained edge is where a patio starts to come apart.
What the job includes
- Drainage set away from the house
- Excavation to stable ground
- Compacted base and bedding layer
- Edge restraint on open sides
- Polymeric sand in the joints
- Pattern chosen for the size of the space
Exactly what is and is not included goes in writing on your estimate.
How it goes
You will know what is happening at each stage
Three stages, and we tell you which one you are in.
On-site estimate
We come to you, measure, look at what is there now, and find out where the water goes. You get a written estimate that lists the material, the work, and what is not included.
Installation
Removal and haul-off, excavation to stable ground, a compacted base, then the bedding layer and the paver. Edge restraint on the open edges, polymeric sand in the joints, and the site cleaned down at the end.
Sealing and care
Cleaning, re-sanding the joints, and sealing when the surface is ready for it. This is the part that decides whether you are maintaining a deck in a few years or rebuilding one.
